Backing-up your important data with iCloud

ShareThisWith the new edition of the Apple iPhone having been announced on Tuesday, the iCloud is also coming under scrutiny. This is due to be made available to users on October 12th and is creating a lot of hype. The main issue for users will be how they will transfer their data from MobileMe to iCloud without any issues. This process is said to be relatively straightforward, saving contacts, e-mail messages, web bookmarks and calendars.
However, it is probably a good idea to back-up all of your data in your own way before making this transfer. You do not want to risk losing your e-mail contacts, calendar appointments or bookmarks for sites like Partypoker. It is recommended that you do this by creating a local back-up. If you are a user of Time Machine, then it is likely that you will already have carried this out. However, it is probably a good idea to make an external copy of your important data just to be extra safe.
Once you have transferred all of your data successfully to iCloud, you can start taking advantage of its services. Data can be synchronised between your Mac, Windows PC, iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, allowing your devices to communicate with each other without you having to do anything. Another advantage of using iCloud is that it is completely free, so you won't have to worry about the cost of this useful feature. All that users will need to begin using iCloud is an Apple ID, then it can be downloaded and the benefits can be enjoyed.
Users of iCloud will be given 5GB worth of storage, not including photos or music. This means that there is plenty of space for storing files and documents, and backing-up all of your important data.
